Volumetric weight calculator for courier shipping

Couriers charge on the higher of a parcel's actual weight and its volumetric weight, rounded up to a slab (commonly 500 g). Enter your parcel details to see what you should be billed.

How the formula works

Volumetric weight (kg) = length × breadth × height (cm) ÷ divisor. Most Indian couriers use 5000, some use 4000 or 6000, so check your rate card. The chargeable weight is whichever is larger, volumetric or actual, rounded up to the next slab.

Using it to catch overcharges

Compare the slabs here with the charged weight on your freight invoice. If the invoice bills more slabs than this calculator shows, the parcel may have been over-measured. Read how to dispute a weight discrepancy, or let ShipJasoos check every invoice row for you.

Frequently asked questions

What is volumetric weight?

It is a weight calculated from a parcel's size: length × breadth × height in cm, divided by a divisor (usually 5000). Couriers bill the higher of volumetric and actual weight.

Which divisor should I use?

Most couriers in India use 5000. Check your rate card, because some use 4000 or 6000.

What is a weight slab?

Couriers bill in steps, commonly 500 g. A 0.6 kg parcel is billed as two 500 g slabs, or 1 kg.
